Legal information on our legal status, our services, our Chamber of Commerce number, our VAT number and our registrations of legal practice areas

MMRL is the trade name of the Dutch cost sharing partnership MMRL, having its office at Wilhelminakade 953 B, (3072 AP), Rotterdam. The partnership MMRL consists of the following Dutch companies with limited liability:

Margetson & Margetson advocaten B.V. (Chamber of Commerce no. 590 25 972) (hereinafter “MMA“); and
The Legal Chart B.V. (Chamber of Commerce no. 807 72 722) (hereinafter “TLC“); and
Seaglass B.V. (Chamber of Commerce no. 814 07 084) (hereinafter “SG“);
Willem Blanken Law B.V. (Chamber of Commerce no. 848 16694 (hereinafter “WBL“)

On this page “we” and “our” refers to MMA, TLC, SG and WBL.

We provide legal services in inter alia the areas of offshore energy, commercial law, construction law, contract law and employment law. Our services include legal advice and litigation. See our website www.mmrl.eu for details.

Fees, billing and VAT numbers
Unless otherwise agreed in writing we will charge for our services by bringing into account the time worked against the agreed hourly fee. Disbursements such as court fees, bailiff costs, translation costs, etc. are for the account of the clients. Where applicable Dutch VAT will be charged. We invoice on a monthly basis. Unless otherwise agreed, payment is due within fourteen days beyond the date of the invoice.

Work done by MMA will be invoiced by that entity, work done by TLC will be invoiced by that entity and work done by SG will be invoiced and work done by WBL will be invoiced by that entity.

General terms and conditions, applicable law and competent court
Our terms and conditions, which can be perused at and downloaded from this website (https://mmrl.eu/general-conditions) apply to our relationships with our clients and to our relationships with other parties with whom we work.  The legal relationships to which those general terms and conditions apply shall be governed by and construed in accordance with Dutch law. The court of Rotterdam has sole and exclusive jurisdiction to decide any disputes under or in connection with our legal relationships.

Insurance
Our lawyers are insured in accordance with the rules of the Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten (NoVA) under a professional indemnity policy.

Complaints
Please inform us if you are not satisfied with our services. Complaints should be addressed to either Christiaan Schmidt or Nigel Margetson who form the complaints committee. If your complaint has not been resolved satisfactorily, depending on the type of complaint, various other options are open to you, all notwithstanding your right to institute civil proceedings. Regarding our lawyers you can issue disciplinary complaints with the Dean of the Dutch Law Association (Nederlandse Orde van advocaten) in Rotterdam.

Registration of legal practice areas in the registers of the Dutch bar association
The attorneys  listed below have registered the following principal (and secondary) legal practice areas in the Netherlands Bar Association’s register of legal areas:

  1. Nigel H. Margetson is registered for principal legal practice area of the law of obligations;
  2. Nick J. Margetson is registered for the principal legal practice area of transport law and commercial law;
  3. Christiaan N. Schmidt is registered for the principal legal practice area of (i) labour law with the secondary legal practice areas of (a) employment law mediation, (b) (collective) employment law, (c) the law of (collective) dismissal, (d) international labour law and (e) the law of employee participation in company decision making, and (ii) the law of obligations;
  4. Steven J.A. van Dam is registered for the principal legal practice area of (i) civil procedure law with the secondary legal practice areas of (a) arbitration, (b) the law of attachment and enforcement and (c) litigation.

Based on these registrations, they are required to obtain ten training “points” per calendar year in each registered principal legal practice area in accordance with the standards set by the Dutch Law Association.

Third Party Funds
We cannot receive funds from third parties as we do not have the use of a foundation for the receipt of third party funds.
